Busy!

Things here are delightfully busy. We spent the weekend in L.A., and got to see lots of people -- the eeee!'s parents, friends of ours from grad school, and a good friend of mine from high school who was in a local production of The Mikado. We also got in some crucial shopping at H&M and the Wine House. Yay for inexpensive wine and inexpensive cute clothing! The sunset on the way home was also gorgeous -- we saw it from Eagle Rock (on the 134)*, and it was great, over the city and the ocean and the lights of the city. I definitely see why people love it here.

Then, last night, a high school friend of the eeee!'s was in town, and stayed with us, so we've finally broken in our guest room here. And to follow that up, some Peace Corps friends of the eeee! are coming up this weekend for a mini-reunion.

Anyway, yay for seeing all sorts of people! The slight problem, of course, is that none of these people live in Santa Barbara. But we're working on it.

In other news, the final exam for my class came very close to being a giant clusterfuck. But it was not, so I could take deep breaths and think about mass functions for a bit. And one week from today, I should have the grades** turned in and be DONE with my first quarter of teaching a big class. Yay!

*I say that like I know where it is. I don't. All I know is it's somewhere between Pasadena and Santa Barbara, but more on the Pasadena side of things. For some reason I can't wrap my head around the L.A. geography.

**Provided I figure out how to work in different curves from exams.

Sarah and I have lived here for almost two years now and we still don't have a lot of friends in town. Too many people our age have kids (or teenagers) and we find that there is the mile-wide divide between breeders and non-breeders.

Yeah, here we know one couple our age that's expecting, and that's it. I don't know what we'll do if we have kids.

(Teenagers? Damn!)

The real problem is that because it's so damn expensive to live here, not many young people live here. So we've only met people our age through UCSB.

You forget I'm 34. Anyone my age that got busy at the age of 18 has teenagers that can drive.

But Eli is 33! So 33/34 still strikes me as being awfully young to have a teenaged kid. (And I say this as someone who has seen every episode of Gilmore Girls.)
