I have had quite a nice and productive day. I got my parallel code working, woo! God, I spent so many hours on that over the past three days. I'm still behind in my class, but now I know what I'm doing with MPI.

After work, I went out for a drink with two friends. "One drink" turned into two, and then one friend saw root beer schnapps on the shelf and decided she wanted a flaming Dr. Pepper. The bartender made it with amaretto, not the root beer schnapps, so we asked why they had root beer schnapps at all -- it wasn't in any of the drinks on the shot menu. So he googled it for us, and brought us a stack of drink recipes with root beer schnapps! We tried a Kris Kringle, which was quite good, and an Attitude Adjustment, which was not as good. And then he didn't charge us for those two drinks! (We tipped generously, but still.)

Once at home, I put on a Santa hat1 and some Nat King Cole and decorated for Christmas. As my decorations consist of a small tree and a nativity set, I was done before the CD was, but it feels all cozy now. I have some work I need to do tonight, but now I'm going to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas. I will try not to bounce and dance like one of the Peanuts characters, but I'm not promising anything.

1For warmth as well as festivity, as it's damn cold out there! It was 5 F when I got up this morning. BEFORE THE WIND CHILL.

This being the only weekend I'm home in a month-long span, I intended to make it count. And damn, the things I did this weekend, in no particular order:

1. Watched The Fellowship of the Ring, which I had not seen before. It was very good, and now I want to read the books, but I'm hoping I can skip the battle scenes in the books. And I am not particularly looking forward to The Two Towers.

2. Bought a ceiling fan with a light and towel hooks at Home Depot.

3. Forgot where Home Depot was and had to turn around in the Target parking lot.

4. Went to Bed, Bath, & Beyond to buy a friend a wedding gift.

5. Found that there was nothing left on the registry that I could afford.

6. Bought my friend a gift from the REI registry.

7. Tried on 14 items at Old Navy.

8. Bought two items at Old Navy, neither of which I had tried on.

9. Made pancakes for breakfast on the grill outside, and ate outside.

10. Made the absolutely indulgent Chimney Loin Tuna for dinner, and ate it outside. (One 0.63 lb loin was enough for the two of us. Well, that and salad. And plenty of wine.)

11. Put together the futon while half-drunk and without the instructions. It went surprisingly quick, and only once did I almost break the eeee!'s foot.

12. Installed the motherfucking ceiling fan. That was a pain in the ass, and involved a trip to the hardware store for a 9/64" drill bit (as we long for the metric system), and three extension cords to plug in the drill in the downstairs kitchen, as the ENTIRE UPSTAIRS is on one circuit-breaker. And it was only when we were cleaning everything up at the end that we found the hardware guide to everything. Gah.

13. Went into work.

14. Was dragged, DRAGGED I tell you, to get a slushie with some friends also at work on a Sunday.

15. Mmm. Slushie.

16. Read significant bits of Assassination Vacation, by Sarah Vowell. I adore Sarah Vowell, and love how she ties together everyone involved in each assassination.

17. Found Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, so I can start that as soon as I finish the Vowell book.

18. Watched the series finale of Futurama, "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings", because, you know, it had been a whole THREE MONTHS since we last watched it.

19. Hoped that I can finish this program at work quickly, because I want to go home, because at home there's the eeee! and Thai food for dinner and red wine and Assassination Vacation and the dog and a really fantastic summer.
