Calendars are scary . . .

At some point, I had decided that 36 weeks was a good time to start buying diapers and wipes, packing the hospital bag, etc.

That's in three weeks. Oh my god! And it's a mere five weeks from now until I hit 38 weeks, which begins the "any day now"* stage of pregnancy! Good thing we finally started setting up the nursery and washing baby clothes and such. And suddenly it seems like we have doctor's appointments and meetings with the doula and childbirth and breastfeeding classes all the time.

In other news . . . let's see. I loved Julie & Julia. (It was only the second movie I saw this year that passed the Bechdel test! Sigh.) I love Jane Lynch, but I wasn't sure about the casting of her as Julia's sister. I finally started reading The Other Queen, by Philippa Gregory, but I'm not enjoying it as much as I have some of her others.

And I'm tired. Guess I have to sleep while I can!

* I know that first babies are generally late, but I was born at week 37, which is a stat that people seem to take seriously when considering the odds of when [untitled] will show up. Also, although I'm glad that my doctor is sticking with the October 4 due date, another ultrasound pointed to September 29 as the likely due date. On top of all that, I while I have wacky cycles, a due date of October 4 requires a cycle of unprecedented length -- 40+ days. So I'm taking the under on October 4.

I definitely recommend keeping the later due date as the one in your head. Our date was April 27, and I kept telling myself May 1. But she didn't show up until May 6, and that last week or so I just got really impatient to have her arrive. If I had been expecting her to be early I think it would have been even harder.

As far as washing baby clothes to get ready, I did some of that, but I think it might have been better to just leave it, as my mother-in-law was looking for things to do while we were in the hospital and would have loved to wash the new baby stuff. And I don't think I packed my hospital bag until the week before our due date, but mostly because I couldn't decide what to bring. In the end, I over-packed.

And yes, sleep as much as you can now -- you want to be rested up for labor and the crazy period right afterward. Our little one is just over three months now and she has thankfully started sleeping through the night, so things are getting a little closer to normal again on that front.

Best of luck with everything!

My mom isn't coming until October 11 -- I thought it would be better to err on the side of too late rather than too early. I'm sure she'll be doing other laundry for us once she's here, though!

And yeah, I'm keeping October 4 in my head for the main countdown, to keep myself sort-of sane.

One thing about diapers and baby clothes: the newborn size (generally) is only for babies up to 8 pounds, so you won't need it for very long.

Yeah, our understanding is that people never go through the entire pack of newborn diapers. We have some size 1's already (due to the "diaper tier cake" from my shower), at least. Also, a friend in town is due in December, so I figure I can just give her the newborn diapers we don't use.

Aclaire was so big that she skipped newborn sizes altogether. We got a lot of recommendations for Pampers Swaddlers, which we've really liked. They come with a little indicator stripe down the front of the diaper which turns blue when it's wet. (Very useful when you're totally sleep deprived and trying to diagnose the cause of fussing.)

Also, if you would like them, we have some newborn onesies which we couldn't use. We would just need your new address to send them along.

(P.S. I am now realizing that any mention of anything baby-related prompts me to offer an opinion. Feel free to tell me to nose out at any time.)

As the eeee! and I were both small babies (7-3 and 6-3, respectively), we suspect that we might actually get a week or so out of newborn-sized things. So we would love to have your newborn onesies! We haven't moved, so if you have an address for us in SB, that's the one. (If not, let me know.) Thanks!

The last address I have for you is Ann Arbor, so if you could e-mail it to me, that'd be great.
