Statistics of the trip so far

The quick numbers of the trip so far:

• Days driving: 2
  
• Hours in car: 21.5
  
• Hours of horrid, torrential rain: 6
  
• Number of times we said, "At least it's not winter and snow: Many.
  
• Chain restaurants eaten at: 2
  
• Number of drivers in Iowa who signaled when changing langes: 0
  
• Number of signs/bumper stickers/etc we've seen for the 2008 election: 1, which I wouldn't comment on except for the fact that we drove the entire way across Iowa.
  

We're in Frisco, CO, which is a little town in the mountains that exists as cheap lodging, being equidistant between Vail and Breckenridge. But it's cute, and there's lots of lovely places to take Doc for a walk. And we keep threatening to move to Colorado.

So I have a dumb question -- are you both moving to Santa Barbara, and you'll finish the PhD remotely, or are you helping him move out there but coming back to Michigan afterward?

That's not a dumb question -- I can barely keep track of what we're doing!

I'm helping him move out and find a place, but then I'm in Michigan through December. I plan to finish by then (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease), and I have a teaching job at UCSB that starts in January.

Colorado tends to have that effect on people. Fingers crossed that you'll have clear weather the rest of the way.

How's Doc handling the trip?

He's great! He loves riding in the car, and right now we're hanging out in Telluride for a couple nights, so we're taking him hiking.
